Why a B2B marketing agency for energy

The energy sector is at the heart of a radical transformation towards a more sustainable, low-carbon future.

Faced with pressing environmental issues, companies in the sector must not only comply with increasingly strict regulations, but also anticipate the growing expectations of consumers and investors in terms of sustainability. The challenges are many:

Green energy

The boom in renewable energies - solar, wind, hydro and biomass - is opening up unprecedented growth prospects.

Storage and smart grids

Advances in energy storage technologies and smart grids are creating new opportunities to stabilise supply and integrate renewable energies.

Green hydrogen

Energy regulations: what they change for your B2B marketing

Regulatory obligations create demand in the energy sector. An energy marketing agency translates these obligations into quantified, dated sales arguments. Updated: October 2026.

French tertiary decree (Éco Énergie Tertiaire scheme)

The French tertiary decree requires commercial buildings of 1,000 m² or more to reduce their final energy consumption by 40% in 2030, 50% in 2040 and 60% in 2050, compared with a reference year no earlier than 2010. Consumption is reported every year on ADEME’s OPERAT platform. What it means for marketing: your commercial-building prospects have a quantified target and a deadline. Your content should show, in kWh and in euros, how your solution brings them closer to the 2030 target.

CSRD (sustainability reporting)

The European CSRD directive (2022/2464) requires large companies to publish standardised non-financial reporting, including the greenhouse gas emissions of their value chain. The Omnibus directive (EU) 2026/470 of 24 February 2026 refocuses the obligation on companies exceeding both 1,000 employees and €450m in net turnover. France must transpose it by 19 March 2027. Newly covered companies will publish their first report in 2028, covering the 2027 financial year. SMEs outside the scope are still asked for data by their large customers, who must document their value chain. What it means for marketing: key account buyers ask their suppliers for verifiable carbon data. A product sheet with a carbon footprint or an FDES (environmental and health declaration) becomes a selection criterion.

PPE (French multi-year energy programme)

The third multi-year energy programme (PPE3), set by the decree of 12 February 2026, covers the period 2026-2035. It notably targets 48 GW of installed solar PV in 2030 (55 to 80 GW in 2035), 31 GW of onshore wind in 2030 (35 to 40 GW in 2035) and 15 GW of offshore wind in 2035, for low-carbon electricity generation of 585 TWh in 2030. What it means for marketing: the volumes set for each segment let you size your addressable market and prioritise your prospecting segments.

How CVS Marketing works with energy companies

The CVS Marketing method follows 4 steps. Each step produces a concrete deliverable.

1. Audit

Analysis of the market, competitors, website, search visibility and LinkedIn presence. Deliverable: diagnosis and priorities. Duration: from 3-5 days to 3 months depending on scope and the level of internal and external interaction.

2. Marketing plan

Personas (operators, technical directors, buyers, engineering firms), messages by segment, trade show calendar. Deliverable: a costed 12-month marketing plan. Duration: 3 to 5 days on average, with a presentation to the executive committee.

3. Execution

Technical content, SEO and GEO, Google Ads, LinkedIn, trade shows. Deliverable: planned and produced actions. Duration: 12 months minimum, exceptionally 6 months on approval of the client file.

4. Reporting

Tracking of traffic, qualified leads, cost per lead and the sales pipeline. Deliverable: monthly dashboard. Frequency: monthly reporting and regular check-ins.

Frequently asked questions about marketing in the energy sector

How can you communicate on decarbonisation without greenwashing?

Credible communication on decarbonisation is based on measured data: tonnes of CO2 avoided, kWh saved, share of renewable energy, with the calculation method and date. France’s 2021 Climate and Resilience Act already regulates carbon-neutrality claims in advertising. CVS Marketing recommends replacing adjectives (“green”, “clean”, “sustainable”) with quantified evidence, verifiable case studies and named certifications.

Which marketing channels should you use to sell an energy solution in B2B?

Sales cycles in energy are long and involve several decision-makers: technical management, procurement, senior management and engineering teams. The most effective channels are organic search (SEO and GEO) on technical queries, Google Ads for urgent needs (rental, breakdown repairs), LinkedIn and social selling to reach decision-makers, and trade shows to close deals.

How long does it take to build an energy marketing plan?

CVS Marketing builds an energy marketing plan in two stages. The audit lasts from 3-5 days to 3 months depending on scope and the number of internal and external stakeholders. Planning (personas, messages by segment, budget, schedule) then takes 3 to 5 days on average and concludes with a presentation to the executive committee. Execution runs over a minimum of 12 months.

How much does a marketing agency specialising in energy cost?

The budget depends on scope: a one-off assignment (audit, website redesign, product launch) or ongoing support. The outsourced marketing management formula from CVS Marketing starts at 4 days per month over 12 months, at a lower cost than an in-house marketing manager.

Why choose an energy-specialist agency rather than a generalist one?

An energy-specialist agency knows the buyers (operators, manufacturers, local authorities, data centre managers), the technical vocabulary and the regulations (French tertiary decree, CSRD, PPE energy plan). It produces accurate content faster and knows how to get it validated by technical teams. CVS Marketing also works forindustry and Construction & Infrastructure, two sectors that share the same buyers as energy.

Does CVS Marketing work outside the Île-de-France region?

Yes. CVS Marketing is based in Essonne, south of Paris, and supports energy companies throughout France and across Europe. Kick-off workshops can be held on site; day-to-day follow-up is handled remotely, with a monthly meeting and shared reporting. To get started, contact CVS Marketing for an initial, no-obligation conversation.
